Member-only story
There are some things we can’t forget
Some moments we’ll always treasure
And time we’d like to relive
Though their impossible reoccurrence make them the more worthwhile
Like the day you first professed your love for me
In code, as though it slipped
Then I acted dumbfounded
And asked you to restate
You kept your gaze unlike you normally would
And I liked it — every bit of the moment
It felt like you’ve said it to me a million times before
Because of its desultory delivery
I like that it was unrehearsed
It came naturally
That’s how I knew you meant it
I was almost tempted to ask why you love me
Then again, I reconsidered
I mean, why not?
I’m very much aware of my characteristic lovability Yes — I love me too
As I’d love to love you too
Or better yet, as you love yourself
That’s the peak
The moment you love someone and you can’t explain why
